February Funk? Haystacks Coffee House Will Cure What Ails You

Helen Linquist, Carol Francis, John Buges, Scott Brix, and Tom Morris jammed at last October's Haystacks Coffee House Open Mic.

Even if Woodstock Willie didn't see his shadow the other day and we really do get an early Spring.  Even with all of the rain and above freezing temperatures of the last few days in McHenry County which have melted away the hard packed icy snow that has been an impenetrable crust on the earth all January.  Even if a brave crocus raises its head here or there.  Even if all that, the wind is still raw, the nights long, the days dreary.  Let’s face it.  You’ve got cabin fever!  You need a night out with other actual human beings, a little song, some laughs, a yarn or verse or two where it is cozy and friendly.
Haystacks Coffee House Open Mic and Jam at the Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry this Friday evening, February 5 from 7-10 pm is just the cure for what ails you.
Back for one of its quarterly incarnation, Haystacks will present a parade of musicians—folk artists, jazz cats, pop divas, ivory ticklers, and the unclassifiable—along with spoken word artists, poets, story tellers, and comedians.  No showcase in the area offers greater variety.
I’ll be there as usual, inflicting original poetry—this time all new material performed on a stage for the very first time!  I know, it’s enough to give you the vapors.
And you can enjoy it all from ring-side comfy couches or tables while sipping complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks or water and gnashing on pretzels and cookies.
The evening of entertainment is free to the public.  A painless free will collection will be taken, but, hey, it is still a cheap date.

Hope to see you there!
